Scott Pelz 1962-2019

Scott Pelz (56) was born on June 23, 1962 to Carroll and Diane Berkenbosch in Newton, IA. In 1970, Scott’s father Carroll passed away in a plane crash when Scott was seven years old. Diane later remarried Larry Pelz, and he became the man who helped raised Scott, his siblings (Sue Dinsdale and Steve Pelz). They moved to Blairsburg, IA and it was there where Scott met his future wife, Cindy.

Scott and Cindy met in 4th grade, dated all throughout high school, and their love never wavered. Scott and Cindy (Kramer) married on October 1st, 1983. In their over 35 years of marriage, Scott and Cindy accomplished so much together. Scott’s proudest accomplishment is their 3 children; Megan (Pat Alexander), Quin, and Greg, along with their 2 (soon to be 3) grandchildren; Tate, Myles, and their unborn granddaughter.

Scott worked his entire adult life as an electrician, and was the highest ranking as a master’s electrician. He worked for a few different companies including; PMI, LaFultons, Johnson Controls, and even started his own business Pelz Electric.

Scott was a volunteer firefighter for a total of 27 years, first at the Blairsburg Fire department and then at the Van Meter fire department where he was Fire Chief for 5 Years and Assistant chief for 12 Years. He loved being a part of the fire department, and met some of his closest lifelong friends in his years on the departments.

Scott was quite the handyman as he could fix anything from a car to a computer, and he loved to tinker with electronics. He enjoyed taking his motorcycle for trips with his wife and friends throughout the states. He loved going to watch his kids and grandkids sports whether they played or were coaching. He enjoyed going out to eat and on Friday nights, there’s a good chance you could catch him at El Rodeo enjoying a margarita. He was fan of Iowa State Athletics, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Cubs. He had the joy of picking up Tate everyday from school.

Scott is survived by his wife Cindy, Children; Megan (Patrick Alexander), Quin, and Greg, his parents Diane Pelz (Paul Jensen) and Larry Pelz, siblings; Sue (Ron Dinsdale) and Steve (Sue Roberts), his grandchildren; Tate, Myles, and future granddaughter, his in-laws; Pat and Merv Kramer, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Scott is preceded in death by his father Carroll, sister-in-law Janice, and grandparents.

A memorial service will be held on Friday January 18th at the Van Meter Legion Post 403 beginning at 4:30pm. A celebration of life will follow at the same location, and run from 5-7pm. Memorial contributions can be made in Scott’s name to the Van Meter Fire Association.
