Richard (Dick) W. Dawson was born February 10, 1932 to Horace and Ada (Williams) Dawson in Blooming Rose, Missouri. He passed away on October 4, 2019. Richard retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber in 1987 after 32 years. Many of those years were spent in various positions in the union, starting with union steward and working his way to President of the United Rubber Workers, Local 164. He was raised with a strong work ethic which he passed on to his kids and expected from those he worked with. Through his union work and involvement with his kid’s sports and activities, he touched many lives. Hunting racoons, working with his mules and gardening were his favorite pastimes. Richard is survived by his wife Jerrie, daughters Cindy (Mark) Konrad, Becky Dawson and daughter-in-law Julie Dawson, grandkids and great-grandkids. He is also survived by his bonus children, Bonnie Weis; Dwayne (Radene) Kelce; John Kelce and Kathy (Rick) Clark and grandkids and great-grandkids. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Robert (Barbara) and Basil (Linda) and two sisters, Ellen Lane and Edna (Don) Hedlund. He was preceded in death by his son Rick, a grandson, parents and one brother, Gerald. Per his wishes (demands) a formal service will not be held. The family would also like to extend a thank you to the staff at Ramsey Village, Bridges staff and Avalon Hospice for their compassionate care and for their support to family members. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the United Steel Workers Local 164 union hall at 2727 E. Market Street, Des Moines, IA.
