Michael Dean "Moose" Heslop of Pilot Mound passed away on January 19, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital Des Moines, IA after an extended illness. He has been cremated and will be hurried at "Hartman Cemetery" Lehigh IA at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pilot Mound Community Center on February 16, 2019 from 2 to 4 pm.
Mike was born on January 27, 1952 to William "Bud" Heslop and Pauline McBride Heslop. He spent his younger years living in Lehigh IA and Oregon and California. When he was 12 moved back to Iowa and has spent the rest of his life here. He graduated from Webster City High School in1970. He was married to Donna Medaris and Pamela Wilson Royster. On May 20, 2000 he married Donna Reinertson Pritchard in Pilot Mound, IA at the Community Center.
He started his construction career working with his father doing all types of building trades. He attended Iowa Central College in Fort Dodge and became a Machinist. He had various jobs in his life including: carpenter for Iowa State University, machinist for the DOT, fireman, law enforcement, conservation worker for the DNR at Brushy Creek Park, owned "Heslop Brothers Construction and Restoration" He was an independent contractor doing all types of work. He also owned "Bluff Creek Trains" where he did his model railroad work. He sold and built model railroad items.
He raised many breeds of dogs, but his favorite were his Beagles. Mike has always had a beagle named Zeke since he was born. His special ones now are Zeke and Peach. He loved to hunt, work in his shop on wood working projects, and spend time with his grandchildren and family. He was on the Pilot Mound City Council for eight years. He was very proud of his American Indian heritage.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Bill Heslop, and infant brother Charles. He is survived by wife Donna, sons Marc (Malissa) Heslop of Port Dodge IA. Matt Royster of Webster City IA, sister Sandy (Ronnie) Smith of Harcourt IA, sister Jacqueline "Tooney" (Dick) Colyar of Stockton CA, brother Gerald "Willie" (Vickie) Heslop of Otho IA and sister-in-law Karen Heslop of Lodi CA, grandchildren Michael, Cheyenne, Cameran, Marc, Maddison, Lexie, and Lakoda. He has many cousins, nieces and nephews. Many other friends, he never met a stranger.
